I feel so much better now. My dining room that used to be my living room is coming together. My old boring oak table that I painted has finally dried and moved in from the garage. And just in time for the snow storm that started to head in last night. I need that garage for my car again.
The color change really made the table feel like an entirely new piece of furniture and all of a sudden the clean lines are coming through and it feels quite modern. Amazing what you can do with just a little color!
The table was not my only issue though. Even with the table getting a makeover, I was not happy with the chairs. They were very heavy to move and also they were very generous in size. Luxurious perhaps to have a lot of room for your bottom but I couldn't fit more than 6 of those chairs comfortably around my table and if we have people over we're at least 8. So I needed to find something less throne like but still elegant and timeless.
Luckily, as someone who likes to mix new and old, I have a pretty good sense for the inventory of the antique stores in the area. I had seen these mahogany chairs probably a year ago and liked them a lot. But they came with a massive table that I knew I couldn't take. This weekend I was able to fit in a visit to the store again. You know..just in case there was something small that I could add to my collections :-) The chairs were still there and this time they were willing to separate the chairs from the table so all of a sudden I was 8 chairs richer! I'm so happy with them!
What do you think? Would you come over for dinner at this table?
