We all know IKEA as a place where we can get things for our home at a low price. Not as many of us think about IKEA as a place where we can get handmade items with as robust design and craftmanship as you would expect at a much higher price in a fancy boutique. But here's a collection that does just that.
The collection is called "Viktigt" (translation "Important") and it is a collaboration with the Swedish glass and ceramic designer Ingegerd Råman. She is a highly awarded and incredibly talented designer. She has worked for Skruf's Glassworks, and Orrefors to mention a few, she has received the award for Excellent Swedish Form several times and has collaborated on an array of projects within design and architecture. In Sweden she's a household name. IKEA working with her is really an interesting juxtaposition. Of course, the collection has glass and ceramics for the table at the foundation, but also bamboo and other materials in furniture and lighting.
In the video above you can hear Ingegerd Råman herself speak about the collection.
I have seen press releases about this limited edition collection since the beginning of the year in a few different countries, but IKEA US has yet to release news about it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we get to see them here as well! It's launching in May so I think it's ok to get excited and put that trip to IKEA on the calendar now :-)
Here's a sneak peak on what's coming.
