I guess every corner of the world has it's gems. My hometown in the north of Sweden has more than most. One of them is Fröso Handtryck. They have been around for 70 years now and are still screen printing all the fabrics by hand at their location and sewing every object locally. It would be cheaper of course to put production in another part of the world, but they are determined to keep it close. To me, it makes the end product that much more precious.
When I went back to my hometown for a few days this summer, I made sure to carve out some time in my calendar to stop by the little shop they keep by the factory. I haven't been there in quite a while so I was quite ecstatic to see all the beautiful patterns and colors! I had to bring my 5-year old along with me and if it wasn't for him pulling my arm to go home again I probably would still be wandering around the shelves in awe :-)
I got to bring a few things with me out of there (but not nearly as much as I wanted!), two pillows for the guest bed in the cabin, and two more pillows that joined us on the flight back to the US. I still haven't put them in place at home..for some reason I want to keep them as little jewels for myself for a little longer. Anyone else do that with new things they love? Wait to use them so they don't get 'old'? So irrational, don't you think?
Here's my happy haul:
Then, just a few days ago, I saw the press release with images of their new patterns for this fall, Panthera and Elephant Village. If only geographic distance was faster and cheaper to overcome! Oh well, for now, I'll enjoy the images. Here they are for you too! Enjoy!
